Peter was talking about the *ist-D and the necessity of using the adapter when doing Firmwear updates. If that's all he's worried about, then a freshly charged set of rechargeable batteries makes a hell of a lot more sense. The chance of running out of battery power in the middle of the update is about as likely as a sudden power failure at the same time.

Rechargeable.
"Rechargeable" is just a word, Peter. It imparts no useful information, as is.
What is it you are trying to say?

Thanks for the advice Keith,
it seems to be a good idea to use an AC-adapter then, and not just a sales argument from Pentax.

No, no! I'd consider an AC adapter an essential part of any battery-using camera kit!
Batteries are relatively expensive, and some of them quite costly!
AC essentially costs you nothing.
If you ever need to do any fussing around between camera and computer, some of which takes a lot of time, why waste batteries which you DO need for portable use?

I can understand why mankind hasn't given up war. During a war you get to drive tanks through the sides of buildings and shoot foreigners - two things that are usually frowned on during peacetime.
