Fortunately the one time I stupidly left my camera case behind in a pub (1974? a briefcase-style case with my Spotmatic II and 2 or 3 lenses) I got back to the pub in time to retrieve my property before the police turned up (although it was already out behind the wall in the back yard). The police were there within ten minutes, though.
