unfortunately, the Japanese domestic market doesn't account for a lot of any
of the manufacture's total sales. last year, Nikon sold just about a million
D70's around the world. i'm not sure of the exact figures, but Canon
accounted for somewhere around 1.1-1.3 million more of the worldwide DSLR
pie. Nikon also sold a few D2H, D1X, and D100 units to go along with the D70
too. given that total Japanese DSLR production for last year was just under
2.5 million units, there isn't much left for anybody else.

The *ist DS is certainly holding it's own, so it seems. I know it
said that Canon has so many DSLR models out that no one of theirs is
ahead, but that likely they sell the most total DSLR's, but
none-the-less, Pentax seems to be quite in the fray.
