Most people can't tell the difference between a print from film and one from digital at a normal viewing difference. I did an infomal test with my portfolio and four people whose job involves judging photographs: three advertising art directors and one art buyer. All of the prints are inkjet. Some are from film, some are from digital. No one was able to distinguish the digital sourced pics from the film sourced pics with anything close to consistency. I'm sure if blown up on a monitor, all could tell the difference. But under normal circumstances, they were indistinguishable.

It makes a nice story, but you are just comparing one type of digital capture to another, and then using an 8 bit inkjet print to equalize things a bit more.
