I wouldn't grumble at US$2.95 they do have a long shelf life apparently, I had one in a Super A that I got secondhand, lasted for ages but was never sure if it would damage the camera. Even the whopping �2.65 GBP isn't too outrageous, but I guess if you get them free it's a different matter ;)

The ebay price is ok but you have to reckon in the postage and money transfer costs. Where did you get the �2.65 price from? The URL you listed just took me to the battery-force home page and I had to search. Only found the Panasonic (I think) for well over �5 each. To clarify: I can get LR44s free - we use hundreds of them each year.
