I've been using the generic Kirk L plate on my *istD for a year now. Sure helps in going from landscape to portrait and keeps the camera CG over the head. You need to know however that you need Kirk's Arca Swiss plate for the *ist D to use the L plate properly. Really Right Stuff didn't have an L plate for the *istD, last time I checked.
