Herb,
that doesn't sound like the Kirk L bracket I have. Mine measures approx 4
7/8" X 3 1/4" ( smaller dimensions than the camera body). I mount it on my
*ist D with the leg on the LH side. Allows access to the  memory card but
does block the battery door.
