I was struck by quite bad luck today, the Cf card in (non-Pentax) a DSLR I used
to
photograph a big event today (new Prime minister and new government
inauguration...) was all corrupted. I had quite a shock when I came
back and found just 30 files on the 512MB card!!! I am finally not swearing
now, but I did a lot then. After few strong drinks I tried some ways of
recovering the files. Finally, one program (PC Inspector Smart
Recovery, which I can now recommend highly - it is freeware too)
managed to recover most of the files (some were corrupted completely,
though, some had only half image the rest was garbage data). Some of
the best shots were recovered, fortunately. Some were lost. Such is
the digital life, not much different when I stepped on a fallen negative in
the darkroom or similar things. But for these I could blame only
myself... Anyway I am glad I rescued most of the shots.

Pfooow.

I hope it won't come again. Especially on a big event!!! All the
politicians must have some bad karma radiating all around, I had
shutter failure on D70 before when shooting an earlier event from the
political crisis here <g>.

I guess it would be a good idea to completely reformat the card,
overwriting it with zeroes, and format it again, to make sure it is
usable. Although I think it was battery failure that caused this, I am
not sure.

It is 2:25 in the morning and few minutes ago the recovery process
finished, with the results above. Now I can finally sleep :)
