The vertical grip would be the deciding factor for me.
The D is just too small for my hands without it.
I've left it at home a couple of times to save weight
and regretted it each time.
It also adds a vertical shutter release, Av and Tv
control knobs, and allows me to "hang" the camera
from my finger-tips, which I like.
