Does the DA-40 work on a 35mm body? Any problems? Pentax says 'digital only' but I've read reports on the 'Net that it works fine with film.
I don't anticipate any further enablement, but I admit, it is something to think about -- I could put one of those on my *ist and have just about the smallest and lightest full-frame 35mm SLR ever...
Well, there is an SMC Pentax-M 40mm f/2.8 already available (occasionally on eBay) for Pentax 35mm SLR's, which is a full-frame lens. The SMC Pentax-DA 40mm f/2.8 is made to give an image circle compatible with DSLR's. One important thing to note: Just because you can see an apparently full frame through the viewfinder of a 35mm SLR doesn't mean the DA lens is giving a full frame to the film. The SLR's viewfinder itself isn't full-frame. Also, vingetting may not be readily apparent at all apertures, at all focus distances, or with respect to all subjects. If you ever get a chance to get your hands on the DA40, put it on a 35mm body and shoot close up at tight apertures, close up at wide aperture, distant at tight, distant at wide, and be sure you're shooting an evenly lit subject. Then when you look at the results you'll have a much better idea of whether the lens will work on a 35mm camera or not. I suspect you'll find "not" to be the case.
