The point being made in the article is that humans are more closely related to chimps than chimps are to gorillas and other apes. This means that the distinction between apes and humans is difficult to justify on rational grounds. Many animals which are not as closely related as chimps and humans are classified in the same genus. Applying the same taxonomic rules to humans and chimps should place us all in the same genus, and possibly also put gorillas in there. Given the rules of precedence the genus to which they should all be assigned is Homo.
