I know this was at a border crossing, but I can't believe that the crossing guards couldn't come up with something to keep him while they called the cops to come get him. This "we had no choice, we had to let him in" thing is a pile of crap. They f***ed up, is what they did. Big time.
Respectfully, I think they stayed on the right side of the law, from an American perspective. Correct me if I am wrong, but the US system is designed to protect the rights of the individual as it's primary mandate. Maintaining the integrity of the intent of law sometimes means that this sort of thing will happen. The Canadian model seems to differ somewhat, in that it protects the rights of society, often at the expense of individual rights and freedoms.
