LX means 60 at least according to Pentax. I think the MX was named
after the KX (Miniaturized KX), I have no clue where the KX name came from.

Now, about this price. It makes sense to introduce a new version at a
list price close to that of the existing model. It's very newness will
cause some to buy. I'm sure the price to retailers leaves a lot of
wiggle room. The DL will probably be deeply discounted within weeks. The
gap will grow. List prices don't matter. Only wholesale prices tell the
story.
