Full monitor profiling and calibration also encompasses precise measurement and 
matching of the luminance values for black and white, it's not just limited to 
colour temperature (which I agree could be learnt) and gamma (which can be 
adjusted visually using the a good set of tools). I used to be able to 
determine the voltage of a 9v cell using my tongue to within a bout 0.25v too, 
but I'd really rather use a voltmeter :-)
