This is for those of you who purchased an istDs: Why did you choose it over the istD? Availability? Price? Size? Features? Which features?

Availability, price, size, more reliable SD cards.
Featurewise the D is better (multiple WB memories, independent
continuous focus setting, super program mode) but Pentax could fix that
with a simple firmware update now they're not selling the D.

But they are still selling the D it may not be available everywhere but it's still being sold, and is considered part of their line. (If they weren't selling it they'd drop the price and blow it out of the places that have it).

Dario covered the "availability" bit. With respect to upgrading the firmware of the -Ds, that won't happen, I don't think; they will just churn out a successor to the -D. Given the timeline of the two products, if they wanted the -Ds to have these features, they would have put them in. Plus, if you can get them in the -Ds, why bother with the more expensive -D successor? Digital cameras are considered commodity items, which is why the profits are slim and the model turn-over fast.
