Dear Wendy,

You should utterly ignore the guy's comment and keep on using the "pancake" 40mm on 
your LX. It will sure do it justice in contrast to several contemporary zoom lenses, 
even though better quality "standard" prime lenses do exist in 35-50mm range.
Just take pictures and the LX with the "pancake" will do the rest.
