For the same reason as many switched from 35mm to medium format. From reading the various MF forums it seems to me that most Pentax 645 owners comes from Canon EOS; mostly the 1n or 1v. It may be argued that an 18mp MF based DSLR doesn't offer enough image quality gain over 35mm based systems to warrant a switch, but time will tell. Anyway, the 18mp 645D is the first digital solution for Pentax MF and I'm sure there will be upgrades over time with even more mega pixels. It seems like there some consensus that just because sombody are using or have switched to Nikon or Canon they will never ever consider something else. I don't believe in this. Pentax (and other) MF system have recruited 35mm users from all 35mm brands, particularly those considered "professional". When MF based digital solutions becomes financially viable alternatives (if they will), the relations ship between 35mm digital and MF digital will be similar to MF and 35mm film. Pål
