The *ist D is an entry level camera?

Strange but true.

Yes. When the original *istD was released it was as cheap as they
came. It is an entry level DSLR even if it costed Nikon F5 money! As
this was Pentax first and only DSLR it had to try to please all.
Therefore it couldn't be dumbed too much down. It had to appeal to
novices but also to long term Pentax users. Thats why it has an
excellent viewfinder (for all those manual focus users) and a decent
AF system. They consequently dumbed it down in order to keep up with
the dropping prices for DSLR but also to give room for more expensive
bodies. The *istDL, or possible successors, will have to coexist with
other Pentax DSLR's. According to Pentax the *ist name is reserved
(thank God) for what they consider entry level;

Got a place where I can read that statement with my own eyes?

dslr. If they are to be believed high-end bodies will not have that
stupid name. Lets hope they don't invent something even more stupid.
