Great for watching DVDs I'm sure but can it be rotated in order to

I'm not sure why you'd want to do that for image editing. But, at
least on Mac OS X, I know of at least one software package that will
run the Apple Cinema Display 20" in portrait orientation. The fellow
at the job site I'm contracting for does that to write source code,
where it's very effective.
For me, a 20" display works well in landscape orientation when image
editing. What would actually be best is a square screen... ;-)
