By :"tongue in cheek" I meant only that your describing the rainbow photo as street photography was a lighthearted, humorous footnote to the discussion. I realize you don't care for street photography. I have mixed feelings about it myself, although I enjoy attempting it from time to time. I don't feel that anyone here is obligated to embrace every style of photography. Nor do I feel that negative comments are out of line. What I don't like is when critiques are offered in a mean spirited way and expressed pedantically. I think that an "I think" should always precede a critique. No one here is qualified to judge without qualification, and i would hope that no one here would ever trash another member's work in anger. But that's only my opinion.

Hi Paul,

I'm glad you gave me the benefit of the doubt. :) Actually it wasn't tongue-in-cheek (for once). I truly don't like most street photography. I do however occasionally find exceptional shots in the genre I appreciate. Most of those have been introduced to me by people on this list, either their own or by references to well-known photographers.

I earlier attempted to express my personal views and feelings about street photography, while acknowedging that I do find some of the images compelling. I thought and hoped I did so in a manner that expressed an overall negative view regarding most of the images I see, without making it a personal attack.

Hmm, who has a derisive attitude?
Tom's reference to street photography was obviously tongue in cheek.

Derivative, poor tonality, mediocre composition. These things, coupled with a derisive attitude about a type of photography that, because you neither like nor understand it, lessens the value of your image and puts it more into the realm of a sarcastic comment than a photo intended to stand
