OK here's my guess: 1.) The Novatron requires that the trigger be a certain polarity. 2.) The DS has a circuit that is the other polarity. 3.) The KX uses a regular switch contact so polarity is not an issue. 4.) The 2850 is either correct polarity for the DS, or it doesn't care.
Solution: Get or make a reverse polarity adapter for the novatron. this could be just a Male to Female PC cord cut in half and put back together in such a way as to reverse the leads.
