I'd be happy to see if I could help you out in person, Shel. I'll be at
Reed's tomorrow from 9 to 6, and since my D just came back from repair today
(yay!!!), I'll bring it along with my 18-35 so you can check it out.
Anyway, if the OK button works sometimes but not other times, there's a good
chance it's simple user error, which is common for first-time users.
This is a good opportunity to explain to everyone why specialty shops like
Reed's are really the best places to buy new equipment: we're paid to make
sure you know how to use your camera before you leave the store. Yeah, we
can't give the best deals (most specialty shops would go out of business in
a week if they tried to compete with internet prices), but you get what you
pay for in customer service and product quality. We're here every day to
help people with their technical problems.
Just remember, folks: specialty shops don't exist to rip you off. That's
not good business.

...could go on and on about this...
