When I turn the camera on, the first thing that comes up is the initial
settings screen to set language, home, and DST. I then have to press the
shutter button to put the camera in a mind to shoot. If there's no card in
the camera, the "No card in camera" message appears. When going to the
format command in the Menu system, and selecting format, the message
doesn't bounce back to the "no card in camera" screen display.

When you press the OK button to format the card, what happens on the
screen. Do you get a message that says "formatting" or some such sign of
activity?

I'm going to visit with John Celio in a bit, swap out cards, and see what
we can find out before I decide to give up and return the camera.
