Canon and Nikon are probably giving bigger commissions than Pentax.
Canon NEVER "spiffs" their dSLRs (a "spiff" is essentially a kickback from
the manufacturer to the salesperson). I don't think Nikon has a spiff on
the D50 as of yet. I'm relatively sure Pentax does. I'm sure the girl at
Ritz didn't know that, though.
Canon's lack of spiffs is one reason I despise them so much. Every camera
manufacturer spiffs their products except Canon. Their cameras sell like
crazy, you'd think they could afford to thank the salespeople a little.
Canon doesn't care about the little people, so when I was in sales, I'd do
whatever it took to steer people away from Canon (I never flat-out lied,
though). It's funny, though: A couple decades ago, Canon was the company
that started the whole spiff thing to increase their sales, forcing the rest
of the industry to follow. Now that they're on top, they send a big "Screw
you" to the people who got them there.
