But image and/or branding (nope, I don't like that word...) is about
what makes you stand out from the crowd, isn't it? Lens compatibility
may be important to Pentax precisely because Canon/Nikon/Minolta
don't offer it.
Sadly, lens quality is way down on the list for most buyers.
They look at camera body specifications and base most of their
decisions on which camera body offers better performance, or worse,
which company has the highest performance body, even though they are
buying the bottom of the line product.
For most people, a lens is just something you stick onto the camera
because you need one to take pictures with.
I think what you are saying here is that most people are generally
clueless, and I'm inclined to agree with you (I feel I've been turning
into a bit of a misanthrope in recent years...)
It could be that the most likely customers for Pentax are the ones who
do care about lens quality, though...
