Were you shooting RAW or letting the camera produce a finished file? You can always wind up the saturation and reduce the contrast range in post processing but not as effectively as if you shot RAW and apply saturation and alter the gamma to emulate Velvia in post processing. > It's funny---I don't mind using Velvia, but the idea of using my image > manipulation software to enhance the saturation of an image seems cheating. > Silly, I know, but there you have it.
