I was thinking just like you, Keith. The only problem is that there are
a lot more effective ways to sabotage the truck. Of course if all the
guy had was a 13mm wrench....

1/2 turn on a bolt isn't very much. My guess is that the cork gasket
compressed or shrank from the heat.

As an old mechanic, I'd refute that supposition.
This problem is man made.
1/2 turn on most bolts of that size equates to about .018" linear
travel. At that point, no gasket is applying any axial pressure to the
nut, or bolt head.
The other Tom needs to booby trap his oil pan! <g>
