In my opinion, the A 50/1.4 is the best optically, but is just not as pleasant to use as are its M and earlier 50/1.4 siblings. The A version did seem to benefit from an optical "tweak" or two, resulting in slightly improved resolution and slightly improved contrast. And, of course, its "A" contacts and aperture setting make it a bit more "convenient" to use on your new DS (and on my new DS). But, I think that El Cerito will be heard from again over the build qualities and focus feel - <g>. (The aperture ring difference should not be noticeable on the DS - <g>.) Fred
