Now I'm so glad I didn't choose a police career.

During the recent half marathon, I wanted to get a group shot of the medical team. Unknown to me, one of the people who subsequently died was in the medical tent at the time. Walking towards the entrance, a nurse deliberately stepped into my way so that I bumped into her and then asked what I was doing with "those cameras". I was tempted to say that they were not cameras but a revolutionary new treatment for heat exhaustion but confined myself to saying "Taking pictures". "Not in there, you're not" she said, taking up a stance that made me assume she would try to physically prevent me if I continued. Bemused, I turned away.

Later on, in full posession of the facts, I saw her again. "Do you always assume the highest possible level of unprofessional behaviour in others?" I asked her. She had the grace to blush.

And I thought nursing was the caring profession.

Hah! Once you know enough nurses to develop a decent cross-section of personalities, you know that the "caring" nurse is not nearly as prevalent as you might want to believe. Many are, but far more than you'd possibly imagine are storm troopers in drag...They love the power trip of absolute control...

Been there, done that.
