Here are the questions:

Does the camera have mirror lock-up or some other anti-vibration feature?

You can set the self timer to a two second delay. The mirror locks immediately, so there is s couple of seconds for mirror vibration to settle down before the shutter actuates.

Is the cable release an expensive addition?

I think I paid about Can$50.00 for mine. Apparently, they can be made quite cheaply from standard electronic parts, but I have not the patience for that sort of thing.

Will it work with the Vivitar 730AFPK Autofocus Zoom Flash I have for the MZ50?

Can't say for sure, i am not familiar with that flash. Pentax has done a good job of maintaining backwads flash compatability, I use my istD with a 20 year old Metz 60CT-2 and also with a Pentax AF280T with no problems. Note though, I have had flash exposure accuracy problems with the istD's TTL circuit.

Are there any weaknesses that have emerged over the few years the camera has been on the market?

The biggie is that it is very sensitive to battery voltage and current drops. All sorts of weird things manifest if the batteries aren't in prime condition.

Welcome back.
