The statement is correct in Texas, Fred. It is true in every state in the union. In fact the state of Texas must grant you a license to carry, provided you are not a felon or under a restraining order for battery or some such and provided you receive training in the operation of your firearm, the law concerning it's legal use, and that you demonstrate basic proficiency. You may use it to defend yourself if you fear that you or others are in imminent danger of being killed or of suffering great bodily harm - and the fear is reasonable.

OTOH, you don't have a right to commit battery on anyone, unless they are
at least physically threatening you, or commiting battery on you.

This statement might not be correct in Texas (and I won't even get into
George Bush...).  (And you think that you Canadians are the only ones who
