Hi,

you'd be surprised. We have some very strange laws, especially
relating to land & property access and ownership.

The Royal family doesn't sue people (although I think there was a case
recently where they threatened to sue). Even if they did I don't think
it would apply in the situation you mention because the photographs
are not _of_ the land or property. Examples:

If some newsworthy event happened in front of my house - eg if I donned
a kilt and strode manfully through some artifical heather - and a photo
of the event was published which included my house, it would be tough on me.

On the other hand, if a photographer from the British Tourist Authority
set up a tripod on the (public) pavement in front of my entirely
unremarkable house, photographed the house and published it without my
permission in a brochure for American tourists to show the glories of
Greenwich, I think I'd have a fairly good case against the photographer
and/or the publisher.

On the 3rd hand, if (as once happened for some completely unfathomable reason)
I came home to see a cluster of Japanese tourists peering through the window
and taking photos of my house, I would contort my face into a stern, quizzical,
yet non-hostile grimace and send them scurrying on their way without disturbing
any lawyers.

On the 4th hand, a lot of movies and adverts are filmed around Greenwich and I
know that on particularly picturesque streets where they film regularly, the
owners are paid for permission for their properties to feature in the ads or movies.
