That's the way the free market works. If I can afford the gasoline then I
take a ride. If I can't then I stay home. I resent the fact that the
government says it's a privilege that they allow me to drive my car. It
implies that they can take away that privilege at anytime. I say that I'm
free to drive my car unless I act in such a way that I endanger others.

Isn't that how it works where you are?
It works that way here.

In Saskatchewan, they instituded a points system recently.
It's actually pretty cool. If you are a good driver, you get good driver points for every year you don't get an infraction or cause an accident. If you cause an accident or have an infraction, they take some of those points away. Lose enough points and they start charging more for you to renew your licence. Lose to many points, and they take away your privledge to get behind the wheel.

I vehemently disagree. Would you have us apply for a permit before we drive
where we specify our destination and which route we'll take? I don't
infringe on anyones rights by driving my car. I'll base my trips on the
price of fuel. That's how the free market works.

Thats all well and good, but if you can't prove you are capable of responsibly and safely operating a peice of equipment that is capable of wiping out me and my family, then I don't want you on the road, except as a pedestrian, bicycle rider or skateboarder.
