This was the first real shooting I had done with my new Sigma 70-300mm APO
DG zoom. Many of the latter images, which show descending parachutists
close up, were done with this lens zoomed out to 300mm and hand held. It
was tricky to frame such a rapidly moving target, which darted and changed
direction as much as these jumpers did. It was a very gusty day and the
parachutists were moving very erratically as they descended. I also refused
to increase the ISO setting on *istDS above the 200 default. I wanted to
keep the noise down, even if it meant slower shutter speeds and risking
camera shake and motion blur. To my pleasant surprise, most of the hand
held shots are pretty sharp. I'm really enjoying this new lens quite a bit.
