There are female pedophiles as well, however women don't invoke the same
suspicion as men, and there are the stories of women stealing an others
child to raise it as their own, (sometimes from the womb, interesting
case of that in the news lately, the victim survived). The fact is that
pedophiles (and other predators), are a small percentage of the
population as a whole, seeing them as being male just reinforces a
stereotype, almost as much as seeing them hiding behind every tree,
(with or without a camera).

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that pedophile men (or woman) do not

In my work as a social worker, I know they do. But I am afraid that
the way
we are treating this problem, we are doing a lot of harm towards the
children we are protecting.
I don't think any responsible person would try to pretend that
pedophiles do not exist. But, equally, we must realize what a small
percentage of the male population they are. Scaring children of all
men is not justified by the facts, and I am sure it is very harmful to
the children. Children need both male and female contact if they are
to develop into healthy, balanced adults.
