Not that it would surprise anyone, but that's true in California, too.
The operating principle here is, if the "toy" can be used to intimidate anyone, because they might believe it's real, and it scares them, then that toy is illegal to have. If you *do* use that toy to actually intimidate, it's called brandishing, and the law is even more harsh about brandishing than possession!
'Tis a morass... best to stay away from all aspects of it.
