What you are reporting is a testimony to poorly organized camera controls and bad documentation. I know: the Oly C8080WZ was no different.

Arguably, however, your Oly and the use of these 300 features is FAR beyond the notion of "basic photography" as in using a manual film camera as it includes the entirety of the in-camera exposure analysis and processing capabilities as well. With a manual film camera, you're only concerned with the focus, aperture, shutter speed, releasing the shutter, and film transport to make the exposures ... all the processing is somebody else's business.
