I find google-mail's pretty useful for a chatty group such as PDML. Keeps the conversational threads mostly straight. Plus remember, your conversation has already been immortalised on google (via mail-archive.com). Now's a bit late to be paranoid about it. But yes, I wouldn't use gmail for anything personal.
