Thanks, Christian.  I did find out that they are not very approachable
- I was shooting with a 400mm on a DSLR.  I think the only thing I had
going for me was that they were up the hill from me so it wasn't as
easy to see me coming.

I can say that watching them move through the viewfinder, they seemed
much more like dinosaurs than birds to me.
