When I visited the US a couple of months prior to 911 I was actually quite surprised how apparently self regulated the US is compared with Oz. Unfortunately here more and more we are turning into a nanny state. The government and whatever it is that claims to be opposition tend to go hand in hand with regards to any such terror/privacy/self protection/"safety" legislative proposals. The problem is that the changes are creeping so that they aren't noticed by the plebs in real time. It's a damn pity, we may have been happy go lucky in the past but we certainly aren't these days, not by any measure.
