I'd strongly recommend any current 15-17" flat panel display over any
comparably priced CRT today. You get more viewable area, better
stability, better color rendering, and the current generation of
inexpensive CRTs have become garbage. You can buy high-quality, good
condition, used 17" LCD flat panel displays for $300-500.

I KNEW someone would recommend a LCD anyway. :-)

Maybe my laptop is nothing to go by, but it's a pretty good laptop, and the
display gives me a headache. I don't like the mat effect etc. I also invested
in a Spyder fairly recently, which is unnecessary for a LCD.

Nevermind. It turns out the 17" CRT is the ONLY one that HP is currently
selling. So I'll look at it in the store and see what I think. Also, $200 is my
top price. This is an unexpected expense, so I can't go any higher. I've
already
reached the limits on my budget on a new Canon lens.

Thanks anyway, Godfrey.
