Personally, I don't care if the new camera is DS based. If it makes the camera more affordable to base it on the DS instead of the D, I would welcome it. Higher resolution, greater dynamic range, and faster performance in all aspects* are the main items on my wish list, and in that order.
*(less shutter lag, faster autofocus, much faster card writing, quicker turn-on times, etc)
