Hi Marnie,
Any file you print should be interpolated or "upsized" to deliver best results with a given printer at a given dimension. My Epson 2200 likes 360 dpi, so to print 11 x 17, I upsize the RAW to the maximum value in the CS converter, which is about 72 megabytes in 8 bit. This yields an approximate 11 x 17 at 360 dpi.

What Cotty disputed was Adobe's assertion that the RAW converter provides better upsizing than does PhotoShop interpolation. Evaluation of an interpolation is probably best done on the screen. I don't think there's much dispute regarding the difference between jpeg results and RAW results. It's a matter of range and contrast control. It's obvious in some cases and indistinguishable in others.

Okay, I am clueless. Why would one upsize a RAW during conversion? They are already big files. I am missing something...

Marnie aka Doe And, uh, by upsizing do you mean making larger?

extra resolution to make better large prints.
