Nutria escaped from fur farms in the South US (Louisiana, I believe) in the '20s or '30s during floods and have been destroying the native environment ever since. In the US, trapping, killing, and skinning nutria for the fur industry is considered an environmentally friendly activity.

I think bob's point was that even though animal rights fanatics are hurting the environment by releasing non-native species into fragile areas, poor practices with fur farming has done just as much or more damage and well before the activists were on the scene. Poor enclosures that don't stand up to bad weather or allow easy escape, etc.


The fact that farmers have done stupid things before doesn't make the activists actions more credible today, does it?

That's backward argumentation.
