I disagree with that. When wide open, out of focus areas are
accentuated, and I like the way the 85 looks. Mine's pretty sharp too. I
wouldn't say my 77 is significantly sharper then my 85. I really haven't
seen a difference...could be sample variation.

Plus the speed difference is important if you need it.

I have some pics where the 77 looks real nice, some where the 85 looks
nice. I'd have an impossible time picking one over the other on image
quality alone. They do look different.

Personally, and I mean *very* personally, I think the 85 gives me a
unique 'look'. It's unusual bokeh gives my portraits a different
something. Lately, after going to Grandfather Mt. and having Doug beat
me over the head with a telephoto lens, I've been using the 85 much more
often when people are paying me.

I'd have a very easy time picking the 77 due to size, weight, looks or
ease of use.
