I used to use both but now prefer -R because they are far
more compatible for DVD-Video players. When I buy them they are often
sold out while the +R discs linger on the shelves. I think
theres more chance of +R popularity waning in the long term due to this
but this just my rough guess of market conditions. I have no idea
which one might be more "archival" in terms of data integrity
which is another issue altogether...When I got my first burner
I tried to investigate all the advantages and disadvantes of
each format and didn't come up with much difference but at the
time +R was being touted as having the possibility of faster
burning speed than -R but I don't see that, you can now get
16X -R discs and drives too.

Hi all,

I want to make backups of all of my scans which so far is about 40Gb
of data (and will eventually top 200Gb). I don't want to buy cheap
discs - I'm currently looking at Verbatim DataLife Plus - but I'm
wondering if there is any significant difference between -R and +R
regarding archivability.

My burner can handle both types and they're both the same price, so
is there any reason why I might want to choose one over the other?

Cheers,

- Dave
