USB2 ports spec is actually not rated at the 1A required for 2.5" HDDs so some 
desk-top units may work but most lap-tops won't and such a device may fry some 
poorer designed USB ports. The better units use 2 USB connections to share the 
power load which can be a bit of a PITA especially when you only have one USB 
port (like on my lap-top).
