I've had reasonable success with the chain stores, although they are limited in what freedom they have to bargain by group protocols. The local "mom & pop" store's original owner (the grandfather of the present staffers) is so hard nosed that I have had almost no success at all. He comes across as this avuncular figure that is doing you a real favour selling you something whereas, in fact, he is carefully removing your eye teeth along with the contents of your wallet. It's the only place in town that does secondhand gear now, though.
