Subject: Pentax newbie lens questions....

1) Is Asahi to Pentax as Nikkor is to Nikon?

No.

If so, then what is Takumar?

A lens.
It may be an M42 screw mount lens (very good for it's day, and stll very good), or an older 6x7 lens (also very good, except for the 75/4.5 which is a bit flarey), or it may be a consumer grade bayonet mount, marketed in the mid to late 1980s against the crap lenses that the other Japanese makers were flogging onto consumers at that time. The K mount Takumars were missing SMC coatings on the internal elements as a cost reduction.

2) A salesman at a store told me that I can use 67 lens' on my istDL,
is this true? If so, how well does it work?

You can get a 6x7 to K mount adaptor which will allow you to mount the lens. As far as it working or not, I can't say, though it will work on my istD.

3) What is the difference between the Pentax xl and xs teleconverters?

XL converters have optics which stick out past the lens mount. They are designed to fit to some of the telephoto lenses. XS converters are a more normal design.

4) How much should I expect to pay for an A70-210/4 in good condition
(not mint, not trashed)?

Not a clue.
