I've just watched that. To be honest, I don't think he's being weird at all. He's behaving well within the limits of that sort of trashy, celebrity-driven culture, playing to an over-excited crowd, and entertaining them in a way that makes them scream. It's not Tom Cruise that's weird, it's that type of TV. He certainly didn't behave like that when he and Nicole (see: first name terms!) lived in London.
